      Program objectives

      This program provides accounting training to enable people to perform tasks and activities in the accounting field for today’s demanding and varied office and business environment.  The Accounting program incorporates:

        • The development of knowledge, skills and attitudes required to perform accounting tasks using the latest computer software packages.

        • Learning about Processing Source Documents, Processing Data, End-of-Period Tasks, Year-End Tasks, Income Tax and Accounting Systems.

        • Developing and acquiring the trade-related knowledge for a rewarding career in financial services.

        Accounting clerks work in various organizations, commercial, manufacturing, distribution, construction as well as services such as accounting firms, brokerage firms and insurance agencies.

        Organization

        Each module in our program is structured into six comprehensive units.

            • Targeted Assignments: Refine your expertise with assignments designed to apply your knowledge in practical scenarios.

            • Essential Exercises: Complete the required exercises throughout the module to qualify for the evaluation, ensuring mastery of the material.

            • Consistent Communication: Maintain steady contact with your instructor, submitting exercises and assignments promptly for valuable feedback and support on your academic journey.

            • Virtual Sessions: Schedule one-on-one or group appointments with your instructor for in-depth discussion, clarification, and guidance.

          Important to note

              • Students can start the program anytime throughout the year, from September – June. 

              • For students to be considered full-time, they must log 16 – 25 hours of study per week.

              • Students who receive financial assistance (Loans and Bursaries, band funding programs, or other) are required to log a minimum number of study hours per week, as defined by the funder. We are required to confirm student activity on a regular basis.  If students are not meeting the minimum requirements set by the funder, financial assistance may be affected and/or suspended.

              • There are 23 modules and each module has an assigned number of hours for completion. 

              • Attendance is verified by:
                    • Progress in each module and by contact with the instructors. Remember that each module has a set number of hours which you have to complete the module.

                    • Login times and length of session and other tracking mechanisms within Moodle (online platform used). 

                • Students are required to advise the module instructor and Debra Stephens, program principal, should they need to be absent from their studies for a period of time longer than 5 days.  Students who fail to fulfill these requirements will be removed from the online program.

                Program breakdown

                The diploma earned is called a DEP, also known as Diplôme d’études professionnelles, which translates as DVS, or Diploma of Vocational Studies.

                Requirements

                • Secondary 4 French, English and Math.
                • A student 18 years and older before the end of the school year can do a General Development Test (GDT) in order to enter into the program.
                • Proof of pre-requisites and proof of residency in Quebec one year prior to starting the program.

                Costs

                • The cost of the books varies. Books must be purchased online.
                • Students who write their exams in a Centre outside of the WQSB territory may be charged a fee, as per that board’s policy. There is no charge to write an exam in a WQSB Centre.

                Exams

                Upon registration, students are required to indicate where they want to write exams.  Exams can be written at the following locations:

                1. Western Quebec Career Centre, 100 Frank Robinson, Gatineau, QC.
                2. Pontiac Continuing Education Centre, 89 Centre St, Shawville, QC.
                3. Maniwaki Adult Education and Vocational Training Centre, 265 rue Hill, Maniwaki, QC.
                4. Verdun, 6050 Champlain Boul, Verdun, QC.

                Notes:

                • Exams may be written at various English Vocational Centres across the province.  Students must identify an English Vocational Centre near their home. Subsequently, Our staff will contact the Centre to make the arrangements.

                Equivalencies

                Students may receive equivalencies for previous courses taken in the accounting program and/or the secretarial program.  This will be determined after registration.
